With the number of junk car companies on the rise, it can be slightly tricky to find the best one among them. It is also of essence that you manage to get an appropriate price for your old car. Over here, I will relate how I had managed to sell off my old vehicle, at a pretty handsome price. Two years have gone by since I sold my old car, and I still refuse to categorize it as ‘junk’. Sure, it was showing telltale signs of ageing, and performance levels had gone down a tad (okay, significantly!), but there still remained a sentimental bonding between myself and my faithful vehicle.
However, during the summer of 2010, I finally realized that it was no longer suitable enough for catering to my extensive travel requirements. I decided to look up on the web, to get to know about companies that dealt with auto finance and junk cars for cash. I finally managed to sell my old car at a pretty reasonable price. If you wish to follow my suit, here’s what you need to do:
- Make sure that there are no confusions regarding the title credentials –
I had all my car papers ready at hand, and when the junk car dealer asked for proof of ownership, I could produce them instantly. You should also make sure that the documents you have actually establish your ownership of the car, beyond all reasonable doubt. Just like you will not prefer buying a car without valid papers, no one would like to buy one which has a shady tale of ownership!
- Repair the old car –
This point is often glossed over by many people. In fact, if I had not found out that my junk car dealer also had options for handling repairable salvage cars, I would have overlooked it too. The idea behind auto financing for old vehicles is pretty simple – a car that is in working condition is obviously likely to fetch a higher price than a vehicle that has handed in its pail. Find out how you can repair your old car, to enhance its final salvage value. Do not spend too much money on repairing though!
- Get quotes from multiple junk car dealers –
Once I decided that my old car simply had to be sold off, I first made it a point to assess its value accurately. This put me in a better position to consider the justification behind the salvage price quotes that the junk car dealers were offering. I was in no big hurry, and compared quotes from as many as six local companies, before finally zeroing in upon one. If you are looking to get the best deal on your old car too, it is always advisable to consider and compare price estimates from more than one company.
- Know the recyclable parts –
Certain components of old cars, like the catalytic converters, can be easily recycled. Detach them from your vehicle, and sell them separately to a good metal recycling agency. Remove the tires and all fluid components of the car too, before you offer it for sale. I literally scoured the web, to get an idea of all such requirements. If you have any spare components, do not put them up for sale as well.
- Avoid towing charges –
If I may say so myself, I am a pretty shrewd businessman. As soon as I received the service contract paper from my chosen junk car dealer, I started to look for avenues for boosting up my overall profit figures. One of the easiest ways to do so was towing my old car to the scrap yard myself – avoiding the extra towing expenses in the process. If possible, you should also arrange for the transportation of your vehicle. Don’t pay additional amounts when you don’t need to!
In case your vehicle had been in any type of accident, you should ideally look for companies that deal with damaged vehicles for sale. The body of my old car was, thankfully, pretty much in tiptop condition – and I could arrange for a decent amount of auto finance by selling it. Take due care while choosing a junk car dealer – your old vehicle can still give you a handsome final return!
